Hair Drama

Perhaps you have heard that hair is a woman's crowing glory?  It is actually found in the Bible (1 Cor 11:14-15).  Do you believe that?  Yeah?  Well, I completely DESTROYED Kylie's crowning glory...and let's just say Kylie thought it was the end of the world.  She is usually very careful and encouraging with her words, but she had no problem saying, "Mom, I am really glad that hair dyeing is not your career because you would be poor, because you would be fired if you did this to a real person's hair." I'm pretty sure she's correct about that.  The truth hurts though. It's funny NOW, but then she was SOOOOO not happy....

It all started with a little girl and a box color.....hair dressers all over the world CRINGE when they hear the words, "Box color." Well, to be honest, I have actually had GREAT experiences with box colors.  I have colored my own hair for the greater part of my adult life because every time I go to a hair dresser it either comes out burgundy, jet black or orangy--none of which are cool with me.   Boxed hair color works well for me, however, I am not blond.  I do not have ANY experience with blond hair color (well, other than this one VERY BAD experience).

Kylie wanted her dirty blonde hair colored with lighter blonde highlights, so her hair would look "cleaner" to put it the way she did.  Well, it came out crayola crayon ORANGE.  I really do not know what could have gone wrong because ít is not like we were dealing with a reaction to a previous hair color since she had no hair color in her hair.  In all probability, it was likely because we did not leave it on long enough.  I assume the longer you leave it on, the lighter the hair color would become.

Anyway, in efforts to save $75 dollars on hair color for a 9-year-old, I wound up spending $10 for the box color (hair dressers cringe), AND $75 dollars for them to FIX her hair color.  As the kids say these days, "EPIC FAIL!" and in Kylie's wording, "You are fired, and no offense, but I don't want you to ever dye my hair again." You have my word, my dear, little beauty:  I will NEVER dye your hair again!

This is how Kylie left the house to head to the hair salon....head covered with a blanket

Oopsie!  Sorry about the orange hue...but really, it would have grown out eventually

This is her "evil look" as in "You just WAIT until I'm a teenager and you'll see what color I dye my hair

All better....happy girl..Her "crowing glory" is restored!

  1. My mom did this to her hair once. She wore this ridiculous looking hat all day until my dad came home so she could go to the hair dresser. It was hilarious- in retrospect (it still probably isn't funny to her).

But who knows Crayola Orange might be "In" some day.

By the way I love your blog!

  2. I think in Tennessee Volunteer country that Crayola orange hair might be in. I am so glad that you were able to get all the hair drama fixed. With boys, I don't have to worry about that. I just cut their hair and they are happy. I had some slight "hair drama" recently. I used to have hair way past my waist. When our family went to the mountains in November, we stopped to help a couple at night . They had been in a one vehicle accident on a windy mountain road. (My husband and I are both certified in First Aid, etc. My husband is also a Fire Fighter.) Come to find out, both people were drunk as could be and neither had a license. While we waited for help, the woman decided she wanted to stroke and play with my long hair and sit together under a blanket. (Keep in mind she was very drunk and high.) After vacation, I went to the salon and got 16" of hair cut off. That woman scared me into it. :) May the Lord continue to bless your family.
